First Attempt at Developing 35mm Film at Home
Five days ago I developed my first roll of film at home with mixed results, but I’m quite happy with them.
The film is Ilford FP4+ 125 ASA. The chemicals are R09 One-shot developer and Ilford Rapid Fixer . Most of the pictures were taken in automatic or P-mode. The camera used was the Canon EOS 500.
Due to it having such a low ASA, most of the pictures are quite grainy and blurry. I struggled with the developing process so I lost some images as well as scratched two images. Live and learn I guess.
Not only was the ASA too low for the pictures I was taking, but the camera was set to capture in 400 ASA, not 125. How much this really matters I don’t know. A lot of the pictures were late in the evening, so that also didn’t help with the low-light grainy look of the images.
Despite that, I was able to extract quite a lot of information from the pictures in Darktable and bring out a lot more detail than I first expected from just the raw scans of the film.
